Vince Cable MP visit leads to Lib Dem full house

Oldham & District Liberal Democrat's annual dinner in Saddleworth will be the best-attended in years, thanks to a visit from Liberal Democrat finance guru Vince Cable MP.

"It is the first time in many years we have to turn people away, such has been the number of people who want to listen to what he has to say about the current economic crisis," says local party chairman Keith Begley.

"With economic events running as quickly as they are at the moment, who knows what will have happened by Thursday. If it's a busy day then we may even get some national news coverage, as there's probably nobody in the country who is as well-regarded to speak on this subject as Vince Cable."

Elwyn Watkins, Parliamentary hopeful in Oldham East & Saddleworth, said, "We are particularly honoured that Vince Cable has travelled hundreds of miles specifically to see us.

"That Oldham is one of only two places in the North of England Vince Cable is visiting this autumn shows just how highly the local party is regarded by the Liberal Democrats nationally.

"The Liberal Democrats did very well in the local elections in May and it is recognised that we stand a great chance of taking Oldham East & Saddleworth from Labour at the next general election."
