Elwyn Watkins, Liberal Democrat PPC for Oldham East & Saddleworth, yesterday attended the Saddleworth Peace Movement's Vigil in Uppermill.

Following the half-hour silence from 5pm, Elwyn spoke to the assembled vigil of approximately 50 people on the event's theme of Stand Up To Hatred.

Elwyn said, "We must be eternally vigilant to make sure the atrocities that happened then do not repeat themselves.

"I was glad to see so many people there in what is becoming an annual event."
