Saddleworth Parish Council News1.25.52pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 16th Apr 2009
It has been a busy time for the Parish Councillors and many things are happening. After many months of discussion the Parish Council and the Area Committee have agreed to join forces in a ground breaking arrangement to pool their efforts and have joint committees to tackle the needs of the area. This will save a lot of duplication and give local people a greater say in what is happening locally. The Parish has continued to run its annual competitions and special notice should be drawn to the massive expansion and improvement in the Christmas lights competition which saw many more bigger and better displays throughout the area. Right now councillors are looking at the opportunities to extend and improve the Civic Hall as the loan taken out in 1999 has been repaid and the stage two work can begin. Parish Councillor Pat Lord, who is the present Chairman of the Parish, said, "Over the last two years the Parish Council has started several new projects, not least the production of a Parish Plan. Many members have taken the lead on individual ones giving many hours of their time and I am eternally grateful for this. We are beginning to show just what a quality Parish Council can achieve."
