About Elwyn Watkins

Elwyn Watkins

Elwyn Watkins was born and bred in Rochdale and educated at local schools before going to study at the London School of Economics and at Bradford University.

Following university, Elwyn has worked for manufacturing businesses in Germany, the Middle East and the UK.

Elwyn says: "I have plenty of real-life experience - unlike some career politicians, I have worked in the real world!"

"In the last three years I have spoken to thousands of people in the constituency. Most people think that Labour have really let them down on crime, healthcare and the economy, and almost everyone is desperate for a change."

Oldham Council leader Howard Sykes says, "Elwyn is a down-to-earth northern lad who I know will do very well in this area. He is passionate about fighting crime, which is of major concern to many local people."

The May 2008 election result saw the Liberal Democrats win every council seat up for election in the Oldham East & Saddleworth parliamentary constituency and Elwyn is proud to have been a key part of the successful campaign team.

Elwyn adds, "The Liberal Democrat council group has worked very hard since they were elected. I am pleased to see they are taking the tough decisions needed to improve life for the people of Oldham, Lees, Saddleworth, Royton, Shaw & Crompton."

In Oldham East & Saddleworth the choice at the next election will be between hard-working Elwyn Watkins, who will stand up for our area in Parliament, or Labour. The Conservatives always come third at election time in Oldham East & Saddleworth.
